Launched in 2004, Sports Business RadioSM focuses on the issues and people directly impacting the world of sports business. Guests on the show offering an insider's perspective include pro sports league executives, agents, college athletics administrators, sports apparel company reps, ad agency executives, media executives and athletes. Portland is a natural point of origin for Sports Business Radio with companies such as Nike, adidas, Wieden & Kennedy and the Warsaw School of Sports Marketing all based in the Pacific Northwest.
Sports Business Radio host and founder, Brian Berger, has been in the sports business industry for 17 years as a radio broadcaster and a public relations expert. After working for KXLU and KBLA radio in Los Angeles, Berger moved to Portland to work for the Portland Trail Blazers in 1992. While with the Trail Blazers, Berger worked such events as the NBA Finals, NBA Draft and the Basketball Tournament of the Americas, featuring Dream Team I. Berger was also on the grand opening committee that orchestrated the opening of the Rose Garden arena, which became home to the Trail Blazers in 1995. After 6 years with the Blazers, Berger started his own Sports and Entertainment PR firm - BBPR Inc. Berger has worked on projects with high profile notables ranging from Michael Jordan, Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James to Brian Grant, Andre Agassi, Anna Kournikova and Lance Armstrong.
Berger had the idea to start Sports Business Radio after years of developing a network of high level contacts throughout the sports industry. Berger is able to call upon this network, which includes many of today's top sports owners, executives, agents and athletes, to appear as guests on Sports Business Radio and share their unique insight. Nathan Roach is a contributing correspondent on Sports Business Radio. Roach has worked in the sports television and PR industry for the past 10 years. Roach began working for NBC Sports in 1998 working on events such as; Wimbledon, The French Open, The US Open, The NBA Playoffs, The Olympic Trials, and ESPN's X-Games. He began working with Berger at BBPR inc. in 2002 and is currently employed with HMH Public Relations and Advertising in Portland, OR.
Bobby Corser is the show producer for Sports Business Radio. Bobby oversees all production of the show as well as serving as a liaison between affiliates and the network.
Sports Business Radio originates from the studios of 95.5FM The Game in Portland - the flagship home of the Portland Trail Blazers and the University of Oregon Ducks. The one-hour national show can be heard each weekend via the Sports Byline Broadcast network out of San Francisco. There is also a Portland-only edition of Sports Business Radio that airs every Sunday from 4:00pm - 7:00pm PT on 95.5FM The Game in Portland.
