Mike Conley Sr. Headlines This Weekend's Edition of SBR

Solid edition of Sports Business Radio planned for you this weekend. We'll hear from Mike Conley Sr., who is the agent for Portland Trail Blazers #1 draft pick Greg Oden as well as Mike Conley Jr. of the Memphis Grizzlies (his son). I had a chance to catch up with Conley Sr. in person at Greg Oden's press conference this week in Portland. We sat down for a one-on-one conversation to discuss his path to becoming a sports agent, his unique perspective as an elite athlete himself (he is an Olympic gold medalist in the triple jump) and his effort to bring the 2016 Summer Olympics to Chicago. We also obviously discussed Greg Oden and what his future looks like now that Oden will miss his rookie season after recently undergoing microfracture surgery.

We'll also catch up with Sports Illustrated senior writer Jon Wertheim. I've known Jon for a long time and he's one of the best writers in the business. In addition to his duties for SI, he's written several books including his latest offering: "Running the Table: Kid Delicious, the Last Great American Pool Hustler". The book, based on a true story, details the exploits of Danny Kid Delicious Basavich, who, after dropping out of high school in the 1990s, went from being a suicidal, overweight teen to a legendary pool player. The book offers fascinating insight in to the life of a pool hustler as well, so I strongly suggest you pick it up. In addition to discussing Jon's new book, we'll also talk to him about the big DEA performance enhancing drug bust that took place this week. Jon has been covering the whole PED scene for SI very closely.

We'll also examine the ongoing saga between the Seattle Supersonics ownership group and the City of Seattle. That one is getting uglier by the day.

Should be an interesting show all the way around. We'll talk to you this weekend. If you miss us, catch us on demand via podcast here.
