Coming Up on This Weekend's Edition of Sports Business Radio.....

We'll have several interesting topics to cover on this weekend's edition of Sports Business Radio. Obviously the NFL has made most of the headlines in the sports world this week. The murder of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor has left many athletes feeling as mortal as ever and has forced them to rethink the safety measures they have in place in their own lives. Yahoo! Sports NFL reporter Charles Robinson will join us to discuss the impact of Taylor's death not only on the Redskins and the NFL but on the sports world in general. We'll also discuss the fact that four NFL players age 24 or younger have died in 2007.
Pro athletes make considerable amounts of money and in light of this week's events they may increase their home security and utilize the protection of bodyguards. If some athletes want to go to extreme measures, there's a Los Angeles-based company called SAFE (Strategically Armored and Fortified Environments) and for $1M or more, the company will install home security measures including ballistic grade doors capable of blocking bullets, hidden security cameras and a gas canister system, which drops temporarily debilitating blankets of chemicals on intruders. After 9/11 many high profile wealthy people hired companies like SAFE to install these types of security measures.
Also on the show this week, USA Today Sports TV columnist Michael Hiestand will join us to discuss the NFL Network's failure to get a deal done with the cable companies prior to the NFC showdown between the Packers and the Cowboys. With only 6 live games left on the network's schedule for this season, time is running out for the NFL. Once the Patriots vs Giants game passes, the league's leverage will be nearly non-existent until their schedule of live games rolls around next season. We'll discuss this battle in depth in segment 3 of this weekend's show.
We'll also discuss Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson's record-setting contract extension and the passing of Gatorade pioneer Dr. Robert Cade.
Talk to you this weekend!
NOTE: Our Portland-only edition of Sports Business Radio will air on Sunday from 4:00pm - 6:00pm on NewsRadio 750AM KXL immediately following Portland Trail Blazers basketball.
