Vick Sentenced to 23 Months in Prison Plus Three Years Probation

Have we ever seen an athlete fall from grace like what we are watching with Michael Vick?

Judge Henry Hudson dealt a serious blow Monday to Michael Vick's future in the NFL this morning when he sentenced the former Atlanta Falcons star QB to 23 months in federal prison for his role in a dogfighting operation. In addition to Vick's 23 month prison stay, you've got to think that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will suspend Vick for at least one season. So we're looking at close to three years before Michael Vick, one of the faces of the NFL just a season or two ago, would be able to return to the gridiron. Vick likely won't be eligible to play until the 2011 NFL season.

And Vick's financial situation is just as gloomy. The Atlanta Falcons are going after $20M for repayment of his signing bonus, Vick reportedly has $6M in outstanding bank loans and he also recently was forced to pay close to $1M to pay for the medical support and placement of 47 dogs who were part of his dogfighting operation.

In addition to a 10-year, $130M contract with the Falcons, Vick once had lucrative endorsement deals with companies like Nike and Coca-Cola.

Despite Vick's display of remorse and his cooperation with authorities, he's probably looking at financial ruins and quite possibly the end of his NFL football career.
