Monday Morning Musings...

A few random thoughts on this Monday morning (ahem......afternoon):

- I watched 60 Minutes last night. I've media trained and interviewed many people and Roger Clemens looked awfully uncomfortable during his one-on-one interview with Mike Wallace. Clemens continued to vehemently deny that he has ever used performance enhancing drugs, but he looked squeemish while doing so. He certainly wasn't very convincing in my opinion. And now Clemens has sued former trainer Brian McNamee for defamation of character. This is going to get real interesting in the next few weeks.

- I guess San Diego Chargers GM A.J. Smith gets the last laugh after his Chargers get their first playoff win since 1994............with his guy Norv Turner at the helm and not former coach Marty Schottenheimer. The main reason Smith fired Schottenheimer is because he couldn't win come playoff time. Turner, who guided the Cowboys offense during their championship run in the 1990's, would be better suited for playoff pressure Smith told us when he appeared on Sports Business Radio last fall. Turns out Smith was right. I don't see the Chargers beating Peyton Manning and company in Indy this weekend though. The Colts have flown under the radar all season and will play with a chip on their shoulder during the playoffs.

- I am going on record right now and will predict that the New England - Jacksonville game this Saturday will be the most entertaining NFL game this season. Jacksonville is built to beat a team like the Patriots and put an end to their dream season. They run the ball very well, they eat clock and they have the ability to keep Tom Brady and Randy Moss off the field. The Jags are very physical and will give the Pats everything they want and more in this matchup. I could easily see the winner of this game going on to win it all this season.

- The Portland Trail Blazers have won 16 of their last 17 games. They are the surprise team in the NBA this season. And business for the team is very good. Trail Blazers COO Mike Golub joined us on our Portland-only edition of KXL yesterday and tells us that the team has sold out 10 of their 19 home games this season.........including the last 6 in a row. Golub also told us that Brandon Roy has the team's hottest selling jersey. Greg Oden has the second best selling jersey followed closely by LaMarcus Aldridge at #3. Golub noted that the team has added 15 new sponsors from last season to this season and expects that number to increase during the coming offseason.

- I'm not inspired at all by tonight's BCS national championship game. I think either USC or Georgia would beat LSU or Ohio State. I'll tune in at the start, but unless I see some compelling action, I'll move on. And I'll take LSU tonight.....by 10.

Enjoy your Monday.
