Listen to Mark Steinberg (agent for Tiger Woods) on Sports Business Radio

If you missed today's edition of Sports Business Radio featuring my interview with Mark Steinberg, the agent for pro golfers Tiger Woods and Annika Sorenstam, don't fret. You can listen to our show ON DEMAND by clicking here. If you'd rather just listen to my conversation with Steinberg, and not the entire show, click here.

Steinberg had some insightful things to say about the businesses and off the course endorsement deals for both Woods and Sorenstam. We'll start to see some marketing behind the new Gatorade Tiger beverages starting in February and the drink will hit shelves in March. We also had some good discussion about Tiger's new course design company, Tiger Woods Design. It was also great to finally confirm that Tiger's tackle in this Buick commercial, was in fact unscripted - Tiger planned this all on his own.

It also sounds like Annika Sorenstam is poised to have a solid 2008 year on and off the course after a back injury sidelined her for a good portion of 2007.

It was great to catch up with Mark Steinberg, who oversees a staff of about 150 as the VP of IMG Golf. Mark does a terrific job for Tiger and Annika and I appreciate him taking time out of his busy schedule to share his insight with us. Pretty amazing that he has the good fortune of working with the highest earning male and female golfers of all-time. But he's done a terrific job managing the international brands of both. He doesn't overexpose either and he negotiates partnerships instead of short-term contracts. You are only able to do that if you have serious leverage, which he certainly does.

And last but not least, please spare me the email about the Kelly Tilghman comment/controversy. I didn't waste the valuable moments I had with Steinberg asking him about this. Tiger put this to bed by saying he has spoken with Tilghman and that he has forgiven her. What else is there to say? Other media outlets may want to continue to give this story life by continuing to discuss it, but I had 50 other topics I wanted to discuss with Steinberg regarding the business of Woods and Sorenstam during our conversation. And I wasn't going to give Golfweek or their fired editor any more publicity than they've already received for their moronic decision to put a noose on the front cover of their magazine. I understand that there may be people that want to continue to discuss this controversy and that's fine. I just chose to not discuss it on our show because its just giving more life to a story about a few knuckleheads that has been more than covered by other outlets. Tiger has moved on. So why shouldn't we?
