Athletes Sellin’ Stuff, 10 Million in Portland, and Open Wheel Comes Together…

GUEST BLOGGER - BOBBY CORSER - SBR PRODUCER

Ryan White of the Oregonian has put up a blog post showing Will Ferrell as Jackie Moon and Ricky Bobby posing as pitchmen for products.  Ryan and I agree, the power of a movie star selling things has almost blurred the lines so much, we think that they are really trying to sell us the product, which in the end, is what they are doing.

The Portland Trail Blazers welcomed the 10th Million fan into the Rose Garden Tuesday night.  Greg Button of Portland was showered with confetti and given courtside seats.  Mr. Button also received prizes from sponsors and a signed Blazer Jersey.  Greg Oden, the first pick in last years draft was on hand to meet and greet Mr. Button.

Rumors coming out of Indianapolis today are saying that the IRL and Champ Car will be merging.  The merge would end the 13 year divorce caused by the IRL, when owner Tony George wanted to start his own race series.  Tony George and his family are the owners of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Both sides are denying any merger, but several sources are saying it’s a done deal.  This has major economic impacts on several cities worldwide.  If Champ Car merges, then a majority of their races would be cancelled, costing the cities millions in lost tourism and hospitality dollars.  SBR will continue to monitor this and will update as needed.
