MLB Breaks All-Time Spring Training Attendance Record

Major League Baseball released its attendance figures for Spring Training this year and the numbers are impressive. In fact, they're historic. MLB drew a record attendance of 3,692,125 fans to Spring Training games this Spring breaking the previous record of 3,421,055 set last year. The average attendance at Spring Training games was 8,026, surpassing the previous record of 7,709 set in ’94 .

The numbers were obviously boosted greatly by the 115,000 fans who attended last Saturday's Dodgers - Red Sox game at the LA Coliseum. The Dodgers in fact led all teams in Spring Training attendance, averaging 16,841 fans per game. The last year at Dodgertown in Vero Beach and the team's Spring Training games in China also led to the team's impressive attendance numbers.

The rest of the MLB teams who averaged double figures in attendance are as follows:

San Francisco Giants - 12,654
Chicago Cubs - 12,053
Los Angeles Angels - 10,973
New York Yankees - 10,730
Philadelphia Phillies - 10,686

MLB is a $6B a year industry now so from a revenue standpoint, the league is as healthy as its ever been.

Now if they can just keep their performance enhancing drug problems out of the news, they'll be on easy street and the owners will be counting their money.
