Monday Musings.......

Hope you enjoyed your weekend. If you missed our show this past weekend, we talked NBA hoops and international sports business. Check out the podcast here.

Here's what's on my mind today:

- At 9:00am PT, 95.5FM The Game launches in Portland. The station will be the new flagship home of Sports Business Radio and the new Portland-based all-sports radio station promises to make some noise on the FM dial by broadcasting the Portland Trail Blazers, University of Oregon Ducks and Seattle Seahawks. Our show airs every Sunday from 3:00pm - 5:00pm starting this Sunday, May 18th.

- When most people discuss the trade between the Marlins and Red Sox a few years ago, they talk about Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell's impact on the Red Sox - and the fact that those two players helped lead the Red Sox to another World Series win in 2007. But it should be noted that the Red Sox traded quite possibly the game's best all-around player to get those two stars - Hanley Ramirez. How good is Ramirez? The penny-pinching Marlins are close to signing him to a lucrative 6-year contract.

- Amazing how the home cooking helps in the NBA Playoffs. San Antonio and Utah looked miserable during the first two games against the Hornets and Lakers respectively but looked impressive at home to even each series at 2 games apiece.

- We're about to find out how good of a coach Mike D'Antoni really is. He's on his way to the Knicks and inherits a team that has been a trainwreck on and off the court. How will D'Antoni fare without Steve Nash orchestrating his offensive scheme and without athletes like Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion filling the lanes? At $6M per season, the Knicks are betting that D'Antoni will not only turn the Knicks in to a winner, but that his exciting brand of basketball will draw fans and potential free agents to Madison Square Garden.

- If this story about USC is true, I agree wholeheartedly with this column. And Mike Garrett should be out as AD of the Trojans.
