For the 5th consecutive year, Sports Illustrated has produced its "Fortunate 50" list. The list ranks the top 50 athletes by their annual income. Their income includes the athlete's salary or prize money as well as his or her endorsement deals.
Is it any surprise to see who tops the list once again for the 5th year in a row? As a matter of fact, Tiger Woods nearly doubles his nearest competitor (Phil Mickelson) when it comes to his annual haul from prize money and endorsement money. Tiger is the only athlete in the history of sports who makes over $100M annually from his OFF THE COURSE endorsements. And keep in mind that this figure does NOT include his other business interest such as Tiger Woods Design, his course design company that has lucrative deals around the world including Dubai.
Maria Sharapova is once again the highest earning female athlete on the planet.
David Beckham leads the "International 20" list at $48M per year.
We'll discuss this list in depth on our next edition of Sports Business Radio.
