Michael Phelps is SI's Sportsman of the Year

Sports Illustrated announced its choice for Sportsman of the Year today. I can't argue with their choice - swimmer Michael Phelps - who actually made it cool to be a swimmer this past August. Never have so many eyeballs from around the world been focused on a pool.

Phelps is also promoting safe swimming for kids. And oh yeah, he's raking in endorsement money. I watched his profile on "60 Minutes" this weekend and saw he and his agent turn down a $5M deal because they didn't think it was the right match. Phelps' agent says he thinks Phelps will make $100M or more in endorsements over the course of his lifetime.

Phelps hits the pool in January to start training for London 2012 and more gold medals.
