DeMaurice Smith Named New Executive Director of the NFLPA

Big, big news from the MFL Players Association meeting in Hawaii tonight. DeMaurice Smith has been named the new Executive Director of the NFL Players Association. Smith replaces longtime union leader Gene Upshaw who died of cancer last year. Smith has some huge shoes to fill - literally and figuratively.

I correctly predicted on our show this past week that Smith would be the next union leader. He seems to have less baggage than the other three candidates did and I also happen to think he is the brightest mind who will bring some fresh ideas.

With a possible work stoppage looming and with the divide between players and owners getting wider by the day, Smith's role in the next labor negotiations will be enormously important.

Much more on this hiring on our show this week.
